Why not talk about the spanish american war? That's the one that affected me and yet so little is told about it...
Nations tend to remember the wars where they looked good... IMHO |

Dudes, the Spanish American War was an invasion. Any soldier that die there didn't die defending his country but rather invading / conquering another. US invaded Puerto Rico, plain and simple. Puertoricans never caused any harm to the US and yet they were forced to live under military rule for decades. And people still wonder why irakis don't want the US there. Look at the history of US wars beyond the ones advertised on the history channel. |

You are trying to prove something with an article from the Internet? How old you think I am?

It's more than 2 years old data. And then it says:
"and interviews were conducted via telephone from a call center in the United States..."
And this Sobhani dude, isn't this the iranian-american guy running for senator on the US?
but then...

Edited by: Shameless Avenger on 07/06/2007 17:50:48 That right, the thread has kinda gone off topic...
It was doomed to happen, this is an international forum.
Let's just leave it as is and go back to some good old fashion pew pew. |

This is an international comunity. Any message glorifying any nation's army will hurt somebody else. Talking about history IMHO is fine. Giving opinions about what could have been done differently IMHO is fine. But sugesting that we should honor some nation's army is not.
I know most americans don't and won't understand why the world does not love their army, but this is not the place to discuss that so I won't tell you either.
WWII was an event that affected pretty much everybody. Yes, we should discuss it in order to learn from it so it never happens again. But there is a fine line...

The people causing trouble, pretty much are intolerant of everyone else on the planet, and they want us all dead...
I'd say that is perverted.
Luckily the vast majority of Muslims are not extreme fundamentalists.
Here in the USA, we have a lot of different religions, and we can get along pretty well without suicide bombing and other major acts of violence... Hopefully one day, the Middle East will learn to do that as well...
You're right, Islam is supposed to be a peaceful Religion, but not many Muslims are practicing that form of it... They want to kill each other, Kill the Jews, and Kill westerners all in the name of religious differences.
The fundamentalists are afraid of freedom, which is anti-democratic. The world is heading towards democray whether these fundamentalists like it or not...
Humans do not deserve to be enslaved by a religion against their own will, they need to have the freedom to choose...

Yes, but does this happen every week, every day in the USA? That's a big NO...
That was our one big case of homegrown terrorism. Most of the other terrorism in our country comes from Muslims... Which can be said of pretty much all the terrorism around the world. Yep, a very peaceful people practicing their very peaceful religion around the world.
If you want to sit here and defend how extremists interpret the Koran, how they treat women, and infidels, you may as well defend H1tler's actions for wanting to exterminate the Jews. It's the same thing... The World back then had to stop H1tler, just like the world today has to stop Extreme Islamic Fundamentalists. Too bad only one country has the balls to do that these days, and everyone hates them for it...
Maybe we should just become Isolationsists, and only use our military to defend our own country from terrorism, let everyone else fend for themselves...
Those are the kind of comments I have to ignore on an everyday basis. "We are the allmighty, you shall bow to us, kiss our feet and be gratefull we invaded your country".
But then again, there is no way to make you understand what's wrong with that attitude. |

Honestly, sometimes I really wish we could just pull out of everywhere, bring everyone home...
Maybe our next president will realize no one wants our help, and does just that...
And we can stop giving economic & humanitarian aid as well, because if no one wants our help, they certainly won't need our money... They can obviously handle everything on their own...
Don't take it personal, Darkie, honey... but just like the guys in the crusades, you can't just go someplace, invade, conquer, and then tell everybody you were 'helping' those people.
Something like this would be a lot better:
"We are sory about what happened between our contries, but we can work together to put our differences aside and work towards a better, peacefull future for all of us, with mutual respect and equality"
But the "OMG we WTFPWN everyone" and the "all your bases are belong to US" attitude is not the way to go. |

Edited by: Shameless Avenger on 08/06/2007 14:45:57 Ok, let me see if I undestand. Everybody else before you have been a bully so it's ok for you to be a bully too? And probably everyone after you will be a more abusive bully, so that makes your bullying a good thing?
About imposing religion on other cultures, let's see who was doing it first. I'll give you the quote, you tell me the date:
"Providence has given the United States the duty of extending Christian civilization. We come as ministering angels, not despots".

I'm not criticizing everything your country have done. I'm just pointing out a few mistakes. If you want to throw a tantrum about it be my guest. If you want to justify those mistakes instead of accepting them, you are free to do so.
But think about this. If I'm dying of hunger, and you have food, but I have to bow to you in order to get it, I will preffer to die of hunger. It's call pride. |

You see, we can agree on some things... that's good.
IMHO, what we need to get rid of is the oil dependency. Oil have caused many wars already and it's giving too much power to countries that are not ready for it. |
